Beach Cuisine Diving History & Culture Relaxing Watersports

Crystal blue waters ideal for scuba diving, swimming, and a whole heap of watersports, and one of the highest sunshine records in Europe.  What else do you need for a perfect holiday?

And there are a lot more reasons why these islands are so popular with the British. Rock and sandy beaches, sea caves, picturesque fishing villages, cosmopolitan towns and a fascinating history - that’s Malta.  An island crammed with ancient citadels, historic legends and 20 prehistoric temples dating back to 4000BC.  Although Malta’s previous ties with Britain are reflected in its friendly welcome, red telephone boxes and beautiful preserved vintage cars from the 1950s, it is a wholly Mediterranean island with a sophisticated café lifestyle and colourful ambience, making it a great holiday choice.

Diving is possible all year round from several dive centres on the island. But if you prefer to keep your head above water, you’ll love the Blue Grotto trip where fishermen take you by boat through a series of natural sea caves. On land you can visit the Mosta Dome, the Silent City of Mdina, ancient temples and the historic city of Valletta.

The beautiful island of Gozo is much greener than Malta with the clearest turquoise water and makes for a great day out.  For the children there is the Popeye Village, the set for the film version of the cartoon and a dolphin park.

Malta’s coastline is mainly rock but has some lovely beaches dotted around the coastline - the best sandy beaches are at Mellieha Bay and Golden Bay.

Eating Out
The cuisine here is a delicious combination of local, British and Italian influences.  Specialities include rabbit cooked in wine and garlic; octopus, swordfish and bragoli - stuffed beef olives.

Sliema is probably the best place for smart shops and boutiques in an area known as ‘The Ferries’ where you can shop for jewellery, Italian shoes and international designer labels.
